Overpriced IMO....

They've been posted here before...... or maybe on AK. They look horrible to me. The finish looks like Formica.

Yeah, I'm not buying them. What's the deal with this (mis)statement i.e FACTORY CUT/BUTYL RUBBER?

The factory did cut the bracing and add rubber where they cut to eliminate resonance. And the guy said they have formica on the horn front.
I don't think they look bad at all.

The most offensive thing about them to me is being upside down. While they're not what i would ever envision as a final result for myself, they do indeed look good, they're clean and that goes a long way.

I don't think the price is bad at all, less VOT has recently sold for more on the bottom of the bay. Heck, several pairs of 416 A and 8A have recently sold in excess of 600.

N8500's, 511's, GPA'd 807's with aluminum phragms, 416-8A's.................................. gettin pretty close to 1200 in parts.

Why do you call them upside down? That's an Altec configuration.

I can't get past how lifeless and dull the cabinets look. It really looks like a picture of wood grain to me, rather than actual woodgrain........ like a late 70's console stereo, but without the embellishments.

Well, I guess you learn something every day. The main reason I posted these is because I had never heard that Altec cut the "horn vanes" on 511b horns and filled them with a butyl rubber. Did they ever do that with 811b's?
